The most copied story in literature is the story of Dr. Jeckyll and Mr. Hyde. The most widely disbursed version of this tale is the story of Marvel's Incredible Hulk.
Originally, he was created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, and first published in issue # 1 of what turned out to be a six issue series.
He next appeared as one of the original Avengers in Avengers # 1.
He became the first superhero with an "attitude", but didn't fit in well with a team like the Avengers, so his story moved to Tales To Astonish, beginning with issue 59. He shared the comic through issue 101.
At what many call the start of the "Bronze Age" of comic books, he took over the title, and TTA became "The Incredible Hulk" with issue # 102.
The long asked question "who is the strongest one there is" may have been answered in the DC/Marvel collaboration DC vs Marvel four issue mini series.

Long time fans of the Marve character we all know as the Incredible Hulk can tell you that he was gray in his first appearance.

His color became green in subsequent appearances, wearing his tattered purple pants.

Although he is generally accepted as a "good guy", it is interesting to note that in the early Marvel days, purple and green were the colors of many Marvel villians. Since the good guys and bad guys squabbled a lot, it was handy for young readers to tell who to root for!

Was the first appearance of the Hulk an attempt to actually have a comic book series headlined by a bad guy?
