Trivia - Superman Firsts - Christopher Reeve in Superman

The 17 SUPERMAN cartoons were produced by Paramount Pictures and Fleischer Studios, and Famous Studios for the last eight cartoons.

All 17 cartoons originally released in movie theaters from 1941-1943. They featured outstanding use of vivid colors, helped by the fact that most of the adventures took place at night. Superman co-creator and artist Joe Shuster was involved with the design for the series, and Jerome "Jerry" Seigle was credited as well.

The first cartoon cost $50,000 while the remaining were budgeted at $30,000 each.

The breakup of the Fleischer Studios caused the creation of Famous Studios, and Paramount kept many of the Fleischer crew to keep the series going, although with each passing episode, the budgets seemed smaller and smaller.

The cartoons were very popular, although the idea of a "Super-man" was still a very new idea. Prior to this heros were excellent phyisical specimens like "Tarzan" or "Doc Savage". They may have gained mysterious mental powers from the Far East like "the Shadow", or they were very, very smart, like "Sherlock Holmes".

Superman could do what every other hero could do, and more. The "super-man" idea was even stretched further when they decided that his alter ego would be a "mild mannered reporter", named Clark Kent.
A mild mannered reporter? Yeah, right!
